Mary Nazar was the youngest daughter of Thomas (Tymko) Nazar and Catherine (Catharina) Progorowicz. Her older siblings include Charles Nazar (1908-1982), Peter Nazar (1911-1972), and Olga Nazar (1913-2001). Beginning in the late 1920s, the family lived at 1124 Farr St in Scranton in a home which Thomas built after buying the land in March 1925 for $1000.
The four Nazar children reside in Scranton for most of their lives with Charles and Olga working in the silk industry while Peter worked various jobs as coal miner, driver, and livestock buyer. All four children marry and raise families of their own with the exception of Olga who marries but never has children.
The Nazar family were active members of the St Vladimir Ukrainian Catholic Church of Scranton. The congregation was founded in 1908 (shortly after the Thomas and Catherine arrive in Scranton) with the church being built in 1932-1933. Several early family members are buried in their cemetery including Thomas’ younger brother Max.
