Bert Flaherty Family

Hubert (Bert) Aloysius Flaherty was the third of nine children born to Hugh Aloysius Flaherty and Margaret Winifred McGuire in Scranton, PA. His siblings include Patrick (1908-1992), Thomas (1909-1994), Margaret (1912-1995), Mary (1913-1997), Joseph (1917-1998), John (1920-2007), Francis (1922-2000), and Robert (1924-1995). Below is a picture of Bert and his older brothers Patrick and Thomas.

The family lives at many addresses in Scranton through the years including 49 Carbon St, 427 North 9th Ave, 518 North Chestnut Ave, 2507 Jackson St, 1011 W Linden St, and finally 955 Johler Ave. In 1932, Bert’s father Hugh dies after responding to a fire. Bert’s mother Margaret remains in Scranton until 1942 when she moves to Bloomfield, NJ with her youngest children. Eventually, all of her children move to New Jersey with the exception of Bert. Margaret dies in East Orange, NJ in 1949 and her remains are brought back to Scranton to buried next to her husband Hugh. Below is a picture of Margaret and all of her children from 1948.
